Disadvantages, breakdowns and problems of the 4D68 engine

  1. Frequent oil leaks. The engine is prone to oil leaks, which reduces its overall reliability.
  2. Low turbine life. In turbocharged modification (4D68T), the turbine may require replacement as early as 100,000 km.
  3. Balancer shaft belt. The weak point of the engine is the balance shaft belt, which can break at 50,000 km and cause serious damage.
  4. Crankshaft pulley. The pulley often cracks, especially at high mileage.
  5. Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) System. The EGR valve becomes dirty and fouled quickly, requiring regular cleaning.
  6. Cracking of the block head. At high mileage, the cylinder head may crack, requiring replacement or major repair.
